If your house catches fire:

  • If you hear a smoke alarm, get out fast! Do not stop to take anything and do not hide.
  • If there is smoke, crawl low on the floor. The air is cooler and clearer there.
  • Feel each door before you open it. Touch it with the back of your hand. If it is warm, do not open it. Go to your second way out.
  • If you are upstairs, crawl to the staircase. Then crawl down the stairs backwards.
  • When you get outside, go right to your family meeting place. Stay there. Do not go back in for anything.
  • Firefighters will come if there is a fire. They may look scary in their gear. Do not be scared. They are your friends.
